Introduction
Platform work represents a new challenge for the psychology profession, establishing itself as a novel organizational context within which psychologists can carry out their practice. The digital mediator, therefore, may not only act as a mere tool for professional activity—simply influencing psychological practices—but can also become a space of belonging. In this sense, the platform may take on an identity-shaping function, serving as an organizational framework from which psychologists can draw meanings useful for the construction and development of their professional identity. This hypothesis stands in contrast with what is commonly found in the scientific literature, which describes platform workers as “organizational orphans” (Conde et al., 2023), and highlights the central role that psychological platforms may play in the identity-building processes of the professionals who use them.
Objectives
This contribution aims to shed light on how platforms dedicated to psychologists can represent an important reference point for professionals in terms of identity. Specifically, through the study of the digital organizationUnobravo, the actors involved in the processes of professional identity construction among psychologists are identified, emphasizing the role played by the platform.
Results
The research shows that the platform studied operates as a central organizational context in identity construction processes, influencing their development.
Limitations
The study focuses on the identity processes of psychologists working on theUnobravoplatform and does not extend to other digital organizations. Future research could broaden the scope to include multiple psychological platforms.
Innovative aspects
The study of professional identity among platform-based psychologists represents a new and unexplored field of research.
